Peter is the executive director of Environmental Advocates NY. This is a return to the organization for Peter who served as its air and energy program director in the late 1990s.

Peter is the executive director of Environmental Advocates NY. This is a return to the organization for Peter who served as its air and energy program director in the late 1990s.

Before this position he served as assistant vice president with the American Lung Association where he directed the Association’s Healthy Air Campaign – an effort to protect the Clean Air Act.

Between 2007 and the end of 2010, Peter was an appointee in the Spitzer and Paterson administrations: serving as the acting commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and as deputy secretary for the environment. While in state government Peter also served as the assistant secretary for the environment and was the very first director of the New York State Office of Climate Change. Peter’s responsibilities as the head of the Office of Climate Change included overseeing the state’s involvement in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and acting as the New York State representative to the International Carbon Action Partnership.

Before joining state government in 2007, Peter served as vice president for the American Lung Association of New York State where he directed the association’s advocacy efforts. 

He lives in the Albany area with his wife and two children.

Kate is the deputy director of Environmental Advocates NY. Kate is an attorney admitted to practice in New York and Victoria, Australia and is an expert in environmental policy and law. Kate has vast experience working with international, federal, and state governmental bodies.

Kate joins EANY after spending close to 8 years living in Melbourne, Australia, where she worked as a solicitor and legislation officer for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). During her time at DELWP she played an instrumental role in the development of several major legislative reforms, including re-writes to the State’s environment protection and water legislation and first of its kind climate change legislation.

Before moving abroad, Kate was an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington DC, where she served as an environmental consultant to federal agencies and departments. During her tenure at Booz Allen, she was a subject matter expert in the National Environmental Policy Act; worked extensively with government contaminated land portfolios; and worked on initiatives to site renewable energy projects on federal lands.

Kate has also served as a law clerk at the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 3 in Philadelphia; a legal intern at the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic in partnership with Riverkeeper; and a law clerk at the United Nations where she worked on the impact of climate change on small island states.

Kate received her JD with a certificate in environmental law from Pace University, School of Law. She also has a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Skidmore College.

She lives in Albany with her family.

Pat has been with Environmental Advocates NY since 1994 and is our most senior staff member. While her title is Finance Director, she also manages the office and our computer network.

Prior to joining EANY, Pat worked with National Development and Research Institutes Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on AIDS research, as well as drug and alcohol abuse.

Pat grew up in Queens, NY, and in her teens moved to Greene County where she currently resides. She enjoys spending her free time gardening, camping and hiking.

Conor joined Environmental Advocates NY in 2013. As our Director of Climate Policy, he oversees policy development and advocacy efforts on issues related to climate change, air quality and energy policy.

Prior to joining EANY, Conor served as Legislative Director for New York State Assemblymember Kevin Cahill for several years. In that position, he was responsible for managing a legislative portfolio and budget priorities on behalf of Mr. Cahill, who was chair of the Energy Committee during that time. Conor was involved in the renewal of the power plant siting and state energy planning statutes; authorization of on-bill energy efficiency financing; expansion of net metering; and the enactment of the Green Jobs Green New York Program.

Conor has also worked for the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) covering a wide range of issues including government transparency, higher education, consumer protection and energy and the environment. He is a graduate of the University at Albany, with a degree in political science.

Maureen joined Environmental Advocates NY in January 2019 as Senior Director for Clean Water. She comes to EANY with a background in community-based natural resource policy and management, working on grassroots watershed protection and biodiversity conservation projects in New York State and several countries abroad.

Prior to joining Environmental Advocates NY, Maureen served as Executive Director of the Hudson River Watershed Alliance for several years, leading the organization in strengthening the capacity of dozens of citizens, grassroots groups and municipalities to protect their water resources, build their climate resiliency and implement watershed planning and in setting a vision and framework for organizational growth, greater accountability and sustainability. Maureen also worked for Rare in Washington, DC, where she managed social marketing, public use planning and community-based ecotourism programs, first as Director of their UNESCO World Heritage Partnership working in six World Heritage Sites in Latin America and Indonesia and later as Director of Rare Radio in the Caribbean and South Pacific. Maureen’s academic training includes a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from The American University School of International Service. She is a trained community facilitator, who also speaks Spanish and French.

A native of Upstate New York, Maureen now lives with her husband and two young sons in Albany County. Since January 2018, she has served as a Town Board Member in Bethlehem, an elected position in a municipality with 35,000 residents outside of Albany. She has been an active volunteer most of her life, most recently as a Board Member on the Bethlehem Youth Court, a former Board Member with Friends of Five Rivers in Delmar and is involved in several town committees, in addition to various PTA, political, social justice and youth activities.

Robert joined Environmental Advocates NY in May of 2018. As our Clean Water Associate, he lobbies for strong legislation addressing water pollution, fracking waste, and hazardous chemicals, and works closely with our Water and Natural Resources Director to build coalitions and organize communities around the clean water protections New Yorkers deserve. Before joining EANY, Robert interned with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Sierra Club in Washington D.C. and graduated from the University of Chicago, where he studied political science and engaged in campus and community organizing to protect affordable housing.

Rachel joined Environmental Advocates NY in 2020 as our Legislative & Climate Associate where she manages the legislative tracking and memorandum preparations and distribution.

Prior to joining EANY, Rachel served as an Excelsior Fellow for New York State, working for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and briefly for the Office of Governor Andrew Cuomo. At NYSERDA, Rachel assisted in the implementation of Executive Order 166, as well as supported NYSERDA’s energy efficiency and Low and Moderate Income programs. Before her fellowship, Rachel worked as a paralegal and government benefits coordinator at Manhattan Legal Services. Rachel holds an MPA from Columbia University, and B.A.s in both Public Policy and Environmental Science from Mills College.

Joshua joined Environmental Advocates NY in 2018 as Director of Campaigns. He oversees the organization’s community outreach and citizen engagement efforts.

Prior to joining EANY, Joshua served as Director of Member Services with the Environmental Grantmakers Association where he helped build and support a national network of environmental funders and managed institutional diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Before that, he coordinated energy, waste and water initiatives for The New School’s Office of Sustainability, Facilities Management, where he helped draft the university’s first Climate Action Plan and managed an entrepreneurial green grants program. He has also conducted public health and air quality research for the New York City Mayor’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, Columbia University, the Center for the Biology of Natural Systems, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and managed the Brooklyn Compost Project, an outreach and education program at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Joshua received his Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Visual Arts from Hampshire College. He lives in Germantown with his family.

Amanda joined Environmental Advocates NY in 2020 as our Campaigns Associate where she engages community groups and individuals in the organization’s policy advocacy and helps to build a broader base of support for environmental policies.

Prior to joining EANY, Amanda worked with Empire Clean Cities as the Outreach and Program Assistant. At Empire Clean Cities, Amanda worked on outreach to fleet managers, activists, and politicians for electric vehicle policy expansion in New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley. Amanda worked as a Research Assistant at The Tishman Environment and Design Center where she contributed to research and writing for reports on environmental justice issues including local land use policies for environmental justice, the adverse impacts of the incinerator industry, and national energy efficiency policies.

Amanda holds a MS in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management from The New School and a BS in Political Science from Purchase College.

A native New Yorker, Jessica spent over a decade in London working in the private sector, first as Director of Marketing for British Elle then for Turner Broadcasting as Marketing Director of the Cartoon Network. Her career has included roles with the BBC, launching BBC Horizon (now BBC Earth), and Universal Studios Networks as Project Director and Vice President of Brand Development.

Jessica joins Environmental Advocates NY after a 15-year career in non-profit fundraising, most recently as a director at ClientEarth, where she oversaw the US launch of their independent 501C3 and major gifts program. Jessica specializes in resource development, with an expertise in major gifts having helped many organizations including Environmental Defense Fund, ACLU, Riverkeeper, and God’s Love We Deliver.

Sarah joined Environmental Advocates NY as the organization’s Director of Individual Giving in May 2011.

Sarah’s role at EANY includes working with the Board of Trustees, major donors to the organization, and potential donors across the state of New York to encourage continued and increased financial support of our mission. Sarah works closely with our Advocate Award event committee to grow support for our annual gala in New York City in the fall.

Sarah is based in New York City.

Prior to joining Environmental Advocates NY, Sarah was the director of gift and estate planning at Brooklyn Botanic Garden and, previous to that, she was at the American Museum of Natural History, also working in the area of individual giving.

Sarah has a B.A. in history from Northwestern University. In her free time, she likes to hike, ski and chase her kids.

He is part of a bustling development department, providing support to the Director of Development and Director of Individual Giving across a wide range of fundraising activities including online fundraising, monthly and workplace giving and the annual Advocate Awards gala.

As Membership Director, Nick plays an important role in developing relationships with EANY’s donor base which includes expanding our reach throughout the state and managing our donor database. Prior to joining Environmental Advocates NY, Nick worked for the New York State Department of Health, where he supported data entry, mail, reception, and digital data management efforts. Prior to that, he was a Financial Transaction Specialist at Cornell University, where he processed university payments to vendors and clients and assisted with special projects.

Nick has a B.A. in Politics from Ithaca College. He lives in East Greenbush with his wife, son, daughter, dog, and 3 cats. In his free time he plays guitar and electric piano.

Brian joined Environmental Advocates NY as the Director of Communications and Marketing in 2018. A strategic communicator with twenty years of experience spanning politics, government, and the think tank world, Brian oversees our communications/outreach efforts to diverse audiences including the media, elected officials, our membership, and the general public.

Prior to joining EANY, Brian has held a variety of communication positions for the state of New York. He has also served as a communications officer for the Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington DC.

Brian received his Bachelor of Arts degree in theology from Villanova University. He lives in Hoosick Falls with his wife and son.

Max joined Environmental Advocates NY in December 2014, and is committed to helping educate and mobilize New Yorkers about the need for environmental protections. As Communications Associate, he helps to ensure the organization’s messaging strategy is successfully executed in statewide media. Max is also responsible for helping to develop and carry out EANY’s social media and digital advocacy strategy, as well as photographic and web administrator duties.

Max joined Environmental Advocates NY in December 2014, and is committed to helping educate and mobilize New Yorkers about the need for environmental protections. As Communications Associate, he helps to ensure the organization’s messaging strategy is successfully executed in statewide media. Max is also responsible for helping to develop and carry out EANY’s social media and digital advocacy strategy, as well as photographic and web administrator duties.

Prior to joining Environmental Advocates NY, Max was a reporter for Columbia-Greene Media, a family-owned newspaper organization covering the Catskills and beyond. Max earned his B.A. in journalism from the University at Albany, where he worked with the Digital Media Division of the Department of Communications and Marketing.
