Annual Report 2011

Letter from the Board Chair

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you for all you do to help Environmental Advocates NY continue our work protecting the air, land, water, wildlife, and health of all New Yorkers. Your support ensures that the Empire State remains a national environmental leader.

As decisions loom about whether or not to permit industrial gas drilling called fracking, Environmental Advocates plays a pivotal role in steering the debate and making sure New York’s leaders fully consider the risks of fracking and do not accept at face value the claims made by gas industry lobbyists.

In addition, as New York and nine other states debate how to reduce the pollution that’s altering our climate, Environmental Advocates is making sure our state continues to reduce its share of global warming pollution.

Environmental Advocates brings unique capabilities to the environmental community—an insider’s grasp of how Albany works; an understanding of the complexities of the state budget; a recognized expertise for communications and media outreach; and a steadfast commitment to advancing the environmental community’s top priorities.

Our staff can be found prowling the halls of the Capitol, button-holing agency staff, the Governor’s advisors, and state legislators; sharing our research and analyses; advocating on behalf of environmental protections; and defeating regressive measures that would erode our hard- won victories.

Environmental Advocates’ work is made possible by thousands of our members, many of whom are featured on the next page in our list of donors.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and our staff, we thank you for your support in 2011 and look forward to making New York a cleaner, greener, and safer place to live and work.

Thank you.

John Buttrick , Chair Board of Directors
