Water Rangers to Skelos: We Agree & A Fracking Vote Must Be Held
Statement from New York Water Rangers
“We are in complete agreement with Senate co-President Dean Skelos who has said: ‘People want elected officials to take tough votes, or at least let them know where they stand.’
New Yorkers deserve to know where their elected officials stand on fracking. We understand how critical it is to wait for the science on fracking’s public health impacts before any decision is made on whether to allow it within our borders. Given the stated support of most Senators for a fracking moratorium, we expect that if basic democracy is practiced, the bill would pass with bipartisan support.
But Senators Klein and Skelos are single-handedly standing in the way of letting state Senators cast their votes.
We are making a very simple request to Senate leadership: schedule an up or down vote next week. If they do, the Water Rangers will proudly stand shoulder-to-shoulder to thank them for showing a true commitment to making the Senate a truly functioning and deliberative legislative body.”
