State’s Drinking Water Quality Council to Meet Tomorrow

Albany – The state’s Drinking Water Quality Council is scheduled to meet tomorrow December 18, at 3PM in Albany, NYC, and on Long Island. This will be the Council’s fifth meeting since originally convening more than one year ago. It is expected that the Council will make recommendations regarding Maximum Contaminant Levels for PFOA, PFOS, and 1,4-dioxane.

The following statement is attributable to Rob Hayes, clean water associate for Environmental Advocates NY:

“When the Drinking Water Quality Council makes their recommendations tomorrow, New Yorkers will be watching closely. Communities across the state have waited long enough for this announcement, and stand to benefit from common-sense clean water safeguards. We urge the Council to recommend an MCL of 4 ppt for PFOA and PFOS, and 0.3 ppb for 1,4-dioxane. What better present to give residents of New York this Holiday Season than the guarantee of safe, clean water to drink.”
