Today President Trump and Acting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced their new “Dirty Power Scam,” an attempt to dismantle the lifesaving Clean Power Plan.

The following statement in response can be attributed to Environmental Advocates NY Executive Director Peter Iwanowicz:

“President Trump and Acting EPA Administrator Wheeler are at it again with a “Dirty Power Scam” that will jettison the only federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants – which in turn will exacerbate climate change and put the health of millions of New Yorkers at risk. This is a senseless action that will cost lives.

While it is encouraging that so many have raised their voices in opposition to this scam—talk is no longer enough—this is a moment crying out for action. New York has the chance to demonstrate how to lead in the face of a federal government that fails to grasp that their policy will make people sick and cause premature deaths. Governor Cuomo can start by converting the power source for the Capitol and Empire State Plaza from dirty fuels to renewables and implement an aggressive plan that moves our biggest source of climate pollution, the transportation sector, completely off of fossil fuels.”
