Statement on IOGA Connections to State’s Fracking Work
Katherine Nadeau, Water & Natural Resources Program Director
“The Governor – and the people he represents – deserve the facts on fracking. But this week it has become clear that a number of the organizations intimately involved in providing sensitive information about fracking’s environmental and economic impacts are playing Albany-style politics. Who knows what else we don’t know.
Whether E & E and IOGA are as close as IOGA says – or as distant as E & E says – is irrelevant. The real issue at hand is whether involved political players have the capacity to be neutral experts on an issue as fraught with potential consequence as fracking.
Governor Cuomo has kept his promise to wait for the science before he makes a decision on fracking, and this is just one more example of political players in Albany putting their self-interests above the state’s needs. Governor Cuomo can be a hero, and say enough is enough.”
