State Legislature Bans Toxic PFAS “Forever” Chemicals in Firefighting Foam

Our 3-Tree memo, entitled PFAS-Free Firefighting Foam, has passed both houses in the state Legislature. This bill bans the use, manufacture, sale, and distribution of firefighting foam containing toxic PFAS chemicals, which have contaminated water supplies statewide.

The following statement can be attributed to Rob Hayes, clean water associate for Environmental Advocates NY:

“This legislation is a great example of a common-sense approach to protecting our health. A ban on PFAS chemicals in firefighting foam will eliminate a major source of water pollution, resulting in cleaner and healthier drinking water for the people of New York. We thank Assembly Member Phil Steck and Senator Brad Hoylman for their tremendous work to keep these toxic chemicals out of our tap water.”
