Poll: 80% of New Yorkers Support Environmental Rights

For Immediate Release: July 1, 2021

The following statement by Peter Iwanowicz, Executive Director of Environmental Advocates NY is in response to today’s release of a Siena poll showing that 80% of New Yorkers support an amendment to add the following sentence to the state constitution: “Each person shall have a right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment.”

“It’s not often an issue so clearly finds support across all demographic lines. Today’s poll shows that New Yorkers of every stripe—liberal, moderate and conservate; men and women; from upstate or down—strongly support having a right to clean air and water. This election day New Yorkers have an historic opportunity to vote and secure this right not just for themselves, but for future generations as well. The time has come.”
