NEW POLL: NYers Who Could Be Impacted by Fracking Oppose Fracking

Statement from Elizabeth Moran, Water & Natural Resources Associate

“The people who would be impacted by fracking oppose fracking. They have done their homework, witnessed the terrible consequences in states which rushed to frack, and are sending a message to Governor Cuomo and state legislators that our environment and public health matter.

The fracking industry has spent millions attempting to bully New York into drilling and trying to coerce citizens to their side with the illusion of riches. No one’s buying it because we’re hearing about the public health and water contamination disasters in Pennsylvania, earthquakes in Oklahoma and Ohio, and states like North Carolina stripping the public’s right to protect themselves against fracking disasters.

New Yorkers want a true economic development vision, not empty promises. Given the costly dangers, under no circumstance will they accept fracking.”
