Congress Must Act to Ensure Clean Air
Unfortunately, smog continues to find its way to Whiteface (“Smog hits Whiteface: Adirondack Council sues EPA head Pruitt”). Out-of-state power plant pollution drifting downwind, coupled with a changing environment, are still the culprits. But so is delay and apathy. This pollution isn’t waiting for court cases to be decided before it seeps into our lungs and makes us sick. New Yorkers’ lungs are paying the price right now, every single day.
We expect our elected leaders in Congress to take action now, not later.
As the Trump administration and EPA chief Scott Pruitt continue to dismantle life-saving protections, this is not the time to kick our feet up. Our Congress must do its job and ensure we have a fully funded and functional EPA to protect the health of all New Yorkers.
We applaud the Adirondack Council, the Environmental Defense Fund and others for their efforts to hold EPA chief Scott Pruitt accountable for the lack of action on this matter. Now we need the same spirited defense of clean air from our members of Congress.
