Hoosick Falls Superfund Designation

July 31, 2017

“The work cannot end with this designation. New York – which has already listed several locations in the state Superfund program in Hoosick Falls – should take the next step and identify a new drinking water source, and provide bio- and medical-monitoring for all residents who may suffer health affects long after cleanup is complete.”

Hoosick Falls Superfund Designation

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) listed one of the four possible Superfund locations within the Village of Hoosick Falls (Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics on McCaffrey Street).

The following statement is attributable to Liz Moran, water & natural resources associate at Environmental Advocates NY:

“Hoosick Falls residents have a long road ahead of them, and given everything they continue to endure to this day, deserve the assurance that their drinking water source is clean and free of PFOA and other contaminants. Superfund is one of the most important clean up programs that exist. Federal designation of this location is a step forward that will provide additional resources for testing, clean up, and the long overdue protection of public health in Hoosick Falls. The work cannot end with this designation. New York – which has already listed several locations in the state Superfund program in Hoosick Falls – should take the next step and identify a new drinking water source, and provide bio- and medical-monitoring for all residents who may suffer health affects long after cleanup is complete.”
