Green Watchdog Encouraged By Gov Cuomo’s Budget Proposal, Calls For More Measures To Cut Climate Pollution

ALBANY, NY (01/17/2012)—In response to the release of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive budget proposal for 2012–13, Environmental Advocates NY released the following statement attributable to Deputy Director David Gahl:

“While our review of Governor Cuomo’s budget proposal is preliminary, Environmental Advocates NY is encouraged the Governor is slowing the rush to allow industrial gas drilling called fracking in the Empire State by not including industry-exaggerated drilling revenue in his proposal.

We await more detail regarding New York Works, but would be remiss if we didn’t note that the state’s proposed investments in flood control and protection projects are evidence that—ready or not—New York State is already bearing the costs of a changing climate. We renew the call for Governor Cuomo and New York’s leaders to undertake new efforts to reduce the pollution changing our climate, as well as address its symptoms.

Environmental Advocates looks forward to a productive Legislative Session working with the State Senate and Assembly to safeguard resources earmarked to protect our shared environment and the health of our families.”
