Environmental Advocates Urges Opposition to Phony Reform Plan
Statement from Executive Director Peter Iwanowicz
“Proposition 1 is an indecent proposal. New Yorkers should not only reject Prop 1 on Tuesday’s ballot, but send a clear message to Albany politicians to stop tainting reform efforts by attempting to pass off this boondoggle as anything other than it is – an attempt to enshrine political incumbent protection into our constitution.
Prop 1 is the product – and continuation of – the ethical problems that plague state government. New York’s environment is hurting because of the current system. But there is time to get meaningful redistricting reform in place before the next round of map-drawing. Environmental Advocates strongly urges all New Yorkers to vote ‘no’ on Prop 1.”
