Environmental Advocates NY Respond to Governor Hochul’s Budget Proposal

For Immediate Release: February 2, 2023

Governor Hochul recently released her FY 2024 Executive Budget Proposal. The following statement in response can be attributed to Conor Bambrick, Director of Policy, Environmental Advocates NY.

“The Governor’s Budget proposal succeeds as a starting point—putting forward funding and proposals that will benefit from continued collaboration and improvement. For example, the continued funding of $500 million for water infrastructure doesn’t adequately address the scale of the problem—at least $1 billion this year is needed. Also, Governor Hochul’s support for the Climate Scoping Plan is noteworthy, with components like waste reduction and recycling, cap and invest, and zero-emission buildings included in her proposal. Now we must work to make sure these concepts are strengthened and implemented both fully and justly. We look forward to the Assembly and Senate’s response to this proposal and to working with them and the Governor on a final budget that will fully tackle our environmental needs.”
