Governor Hochul’s State of the State address and the opening of the 2024 legislative session marks a pivotal moment for New York’s environment. Just today we learned that 2023 was the hottest on record. With this and the urgency of other escalating environmental crises casting a shadow over our state, the time for bold, courageous, and decisive action is now.
This year’s session must meet the moment—with bold action on climate, courageous solutions for our waste problem, as well as decisive investment in water infrastructure fit for the 21st century. That road ahead of us is an opportunity for leadership, for audacity, and for setting a precedent on a national, even global scale. Anything less is unworthy of New York.
