Junior Communications Associate

General Description

Environmental Advocates NY seeks a passionate, energetic, and results-oriented professional who is adept at utilizing traditional and digital communications tools. The Junior Communications Associate is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the communications director, the Junior Communications Associate will work with staff to successfully communicate our positions, as well as carry out digital advocacy and fundraising campaigns.

Specific Responsibilities

Social Media: The Junior Communications Associate will help implement the organization’s social media campaigns and day-to-day content. Responsibilities include:

  • Upkeep of social media channels
  • Creating original content
  • Providing regular reports on engagement

Email Marketing/membership outreach: This position calls for communicating digitally with the public, legislators, and members. The communications coordinator will help create and schedule various emails using MailChimp as well as compose action alerts via Phone2Action.

Press Relations: The Junior Communications Associate, working with appropriate staff members, assists the director in pitching and responding to the media. Additionally, this person will assist in the preparation of press materials, including:

  • Releases and statements
  • Issue-based editorial board memos
  • Letters to the editor, OP-EDs, and more

Website Management: The Junior Communications Associate will help update the organizational website (WordPress) as needed.

Additional skills may be required and can be learned once in the position. Applicants should possess the interest in expanding their communications expertise.

Position Requirements

  • A commitment to our environment and advocacy
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant years of experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal direction, as well as work collaboratively with fellow staff and partner organizations
  • History of successfully managing digital media

Technical experience with online marketing and member outreach platforms (Phone2Action, MailChimp, etc.), WordPress website management, and Canva design, appreciated but not required initially.

Traveling, working nights and/or weekends may be required. Driver’s license required.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $45,000-$48,000 and is commensurate with experience.  We also offer excellent health, dental and vision benefits including a retirement savings with an employer contribution.

Environmental Advocates NY is based in Albany, New York with a few staff based out of New York City. All staff are offered flexible work arrangements with days remote and days in the office. This is an Albany-based position, and the successful applicant would be expected to work out of the Albany office as part of the organization’s hybrid work mode.
