Taking Sides: Watchdog Report

Take sides

As hard as it is to believe, there are still elected officials who deny science and believe climate change isn’t real. That small but loud and aggressive minority is responsible for stalling action on federal, state and local levels. They say kids deserve clean air. They tell their constituents they want to protect the public, our communities and our environment. But once behind close doors they stand with polluters. It’s time to take sides.

Environmental Advocates is proud to join a phenomenal coalition of community, social justice and labor organizations taking sides to force polluters to build the path to a clean energy future, to publicly disclose how their practices impact our environment, and to ensure decision-makers act. Join the Take Sides campaign at www.takesides.org!

Getting there on clean water funding

If you like safe drinking water and sewer systems that don’t overflow with raw sewage into our waterways, now is your chance to tell Albany you want clean water! Because of our work, our great partners, and hundreds of Environmental Advocates, the state Senate and Assembly have both proposed critical investments for our communities’ clean water needs in their respective budget plans. Momentum is on our side, and we can’t let up – we need our elected officials (legislators and Governor Cuomo) to come together in order to protect public health and our environment.

Struggling communities across the state need your help. Boil water alerts, sewage spills, closed roadways, waterways and schools cannot become the norm. Act today!

Stepping up our advocacy

You may have noticed our advocacy page has changed – our new advocacy service will further strengthen our efforts to protect New York's ‪‎environment and amplify your voice to Governor Andrew Cuomo and other decision-makers! The new tool we are using will empower you to engage via email, social media or cell phone (how you engage is entirely up to you, and as always, your information is NEVER shared with others). Please bear with us as we work out any initial kinks, and we hope you find our new Action Center a great way to get involved!

Medical professionals lobby day

Last week, our Saima Anjam hosted a group of medical professionals from across the state who traveled to the Capitol to meet with legislators to advocate funding for the Centers of Excellence in Children’s Environmental Health. These programs strengthen the quality of research in New York, and help to educate doctors, nurses, scientists and others about dangers that toxics pose to children’s health. Are you a health professional who would like more information about an advisory panel we are creating that identifies concerns, public policy solutions, and helps to educate the public and decision-makers about the need for action? Let us know by filling out this form and we’ll be in touch!

Gearing up for Earth Month

We are gearing up for April with a lot of exciting Earth Month plans; stay tuned here and on our social media channels as we roll them out. Once again, we will be working with participating AVEDA salons across New York State to raise awareness on protecting clean water in our communities. Find out more here.
