This August, Environmental Advocates of New York is trying something new which we hope you will be part of: Advocates’ Summer Camp.
It doesn’t require overnight stays or the pressure of coming up with a scary story at the campfire (as fun as that is), but participating in events statewide that support of our air, land, water and health, drawing on the best principles of summer camp – teamwork, leadership, and camaraderie.
Ossining: Join us at the Metro North Station to leaflet commuters and build pressure on Senator David Carlucci to be the leader on fracking he promised to be. Sign up here.
Bay Shore: Join us for a free family picnic honoring Senator Phil Boyle for his work on behalf of the Child Safe Products Act. Sign up here.
Bronx: Senator Jeff Klein has really dropped the ball on environmental issues -- join us to build pressure on the Senate to act. Sign up here.
Syracuse: We will be at the State Fair pushing Governor Cuomo to reject fracking. Sign up here.
Environmental Advocates is known as the policy experts, the organization that advances good measures to strengthen our environment and sounds the alarm when decision-makers seek to chip away at our hard-fought protections.
We’ve had our work cut out for us this year thanks to a Legislature – the state Senate in particular – that seems more interested in political gamesmanship than fighting climate change, making New York a leader in the development of renewable energy, and ensuring that the fracking industry doesn’t endanger our public health.
Our legislators may have left Albany for the year. And some may plan on kicking up their feet for the rest of 2013. But we want to raise a little bit of a fuss. We want to let the constituents of do-nothing Senators know that what their elected officials say back home does not align with their inaction inside the Capitol.
We want to break the legislative logjam and ensure New York takes meaningful action this year.
In the coming weeks we will be sharing several dates and locations, including Western and Central New York, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New York City, where we will be targeting key Senators to get back to work and fulfill their promise to protect our environment and communities. Keep an eye out for sign-up opportunities throughout the middle of August!
