Governor Cuomo Directs DEC to Ban Chlorpyrifos

For Immediate Release: December 10, 2019

Today, Governor Cuomo directed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to ban the dangerous pesticide chlorpyrifos. Scientific research shows that chlorpyrifos poses significant risks to children’s brain development.

The following quote in response can be attributed to Kate Kurera, Deputy Director of Environmental Advocates of New York.

“Today’s action by Governor Cuomo provides real leadership in the face of federal indifference. Chlorpyrifos can harm our children and has no place in New York. We commend the Governor for recognizing this and acting to ban chlorpyrifos. We also applaud Senator Kaminsky and Assemblyman Englebright for their hard work in making this ban a reality in New York. Now we can all look forward to the day when chlorpyrifos no longer poses a threat to the residents of our state.”
