This legislation extends the New York City solar tax abatement program through the beginning of 2021. The property tax incentive, which can be applied to offset costs associated with the materials, labor and installation of solar photovoltaic systems expires at the end of the year.
New York City’s solar tax abatement is an important complement to the state’s myriad clean energy programs, designed specifically to account for the unique costs associated with installing solar in New York City. The program, when combined with NY-Sun incentives, provides New Yorkers with the resources to help the City reach its climate pollution and air quality improvement goals. Since air pollution from fossil-fueled power plants can make people sick, cut short lives, and increase the impacts of our changing climate, it is critically important that we generate more power from zero emission sources.
This bill extends New York City’s solar tax abatement program through January 1, 2021. The law is currently scheduled to expire on January 1, 2019.
