![]() Peter Iwanowicz Executive Director (518) 462-5526 ext. 228 Peter M. Iwanowicz is the executive director of Environmental Advocates of New York. This is a return to the organization for Peter who served as its air and energy program director in the late 1990s. Before this position he served as assistant vice president with the American Lung Association where he directed the Association’s Healthy Air Campaign – an effort to protect the Clean Air Act. Between 2007 and the end of 2010, Peter was an appointee in the Spitzer and Paterson administrations: serving as the acting commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and as deputy secretary for the environment. While in state government Peter also served as the assistant secretary for the environment and was the very first director of the New York State Office of Climate Change. Peter’s responsibilities as the head of the Office of Climate Change included overseeing the state’s involvement in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and acting as the New York State representative to the International Carbon Action Partnership. Before joining state government in 2007, Peter served as vice president for the American Lung Association of New York State where he directed the association’s advocacy efforts. He lives in the Albany area with his wife and two children. |

![]() Kate Kurera Deputy Director (518) 462-5526 ext. 233 Kate Kurera is the deputy director of Environmental Advocates of New York. Kate is an attorney admitted to practice in New York and Victoria, Australia and has expertise in environmental, climate change, and water law. Kate has vast experience working with international, federal, and state governmental bodies. Kate joins EA after spending close to 8 years living in Melbourne, Australia, where she worked as a solicitor and legislation officer for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). During her time at DELWP she played an instrumental role in the development of several major legislative reforms, including re-writes to the State’s environment protection and water legislation and first of its kind climate change legislation. Before moving abroad, Kate was an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington DC, where she served as an environmental consultant to federal agencies and departments. During her tenure at Booz Allen, she was a subject matter expert in the National Environmental Policy Act; worked extensively with government contaminated land portfolios; and worked on initiatives to site renewable energy projects on federal lands. Kate has also served as a law clerk at the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 3 in Philadelphia; a legal intern at the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic in partnership with Riverkeeper; and a law clerk at the United Nations where she worked on the impact of climate change on small island states. Kate received her JD with a certificate in environmental law from Pace University, School of Law. She also has a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Skidmore College. She lives in Albany with her family. |

![]() Kristina Green Administrative Assistant 518-462-5526 x223 Kristina joined Environmental Advocates of New York in early October of 2016 in the role of administrative assistant. Prior to joining Environmental Advocates, Kristina worked in the medical field as a receptionist and as an administrative assistant for a commercial real estate group. In Kristina’s spare time she enjoys traveling and spending time with her dog Duke. |
